Monday 3rd February

Speech Therapy with Jo Lewis @ 11:00-12:00

Register for this event here: https://bit.ly/3XQq9FG

I am Jo, a speech and language therapist. I am passionate about supporting individuals and their families with communication difficulties as a result of neurological disorders. My career spans 27 years working in a range of specialist neurological settings but mostly in community neuro rehabilitation supporting individuals to achieve their potential for the things that matter to them, whether that is within their home, their communities, employment or education.

Ataxia can often impact speech - making it hard to make ourselves understood in the usual way, but speech is only one part of communication.

Communication is so important for wellbeing - allowing us to connect and share with others, as well as ensure our needs are met.

Join us on the 3rd as we discuss speech therapy & ataxia.

Friday 7th February

Mindfulness with Lucy Holland @1:00pm-2:00pm

Register for this event here: https://bit.ly/3TEn4pQ

The benefits of yoga and mindfulness have been a constant in Lucy’s life for over 20 years and she has been sharing her experience through her teaching since 2017. Ataxia UK is a charity close to her family's heart and she has organised several fundraising yoga and mindfulness classes.

The session will combine breathing techniques with visualisation and meditation, as well as yoga “nidra” (“yogic sleep”) with stretch and release exercises, body scan and positive affirmations. Meditation can help take your mind to a place of inner peace and relaxation. It is an exercise of the entire body; neural highways, circulatory and respiratory system. The aim is to provide a “toolkit” to help deal with the challenging situations and frustrations that may arise in daily life by relaxing the body and central nervous system and calming the mind.
