The Difference Between Preference and FearĀ

Post Published: January 12, 2023

Beth Winder shares her thoughts on the ‘difference between preference and fear’ in this eye-opening piece!

Being an Ataxia warrior means that you constantly have to keep moving forward. The question is: do you prefer not to do something, or are you afraid to do it? I found that I was doing things because other people thought I should, but it didnā€™t leave me feeling good. I came to a realisation that I need to push myself to do things out of my comfort zone, but I also need to trust myself by questioning why.

When I started questioning my choices, it occurred to me that I was doing things to impress others, trying to fulfil their standards. We all have a battery life, our energy, which is why itā€™s important to act on decisions accordingly. Donā€™t forget we all need recharging. Do the things you utilise your energy on leave you feeling satisfied?

As the musician, Bruce Dickinson said, ā€œlife is too short to be doing things you donā€™t loveā€. Make sure you understand the difference between preference and fear, and you always question why.
