Annual Conference Success - Ataxia UK

Annual Conference Success

Post Published: October 28, 2015

On 2nd & 3rd October, we hosted our annual conference at the Radisson Blu Stansted. The weekend, which is always the highlight of the Ataxia UK calendar year, was a mix of updates, advice and workshops across the ataxia condition.

Ataxia UK patron Paul Coia, who once again helped to host the conference.

Dr. Ossie Stuart

Once again we were joined by Dr. Ossie Stuart who presented an engaging session on the current state of the benefits system in the UK. Dr. Stuart based much of his study on a report by Dr. Simon Duffy entitled “A fair society”. Dr Duffy’s report can be accessed here.

The Ataxia: 16-30 Chill Out!

2015 was the first time we rolled out the Ataxia: 16-30 Chill Out! A break-out conference designed exclusively for younger people looking to meet other people with their condition, share advice and tips as well as forging lasting friendships.

Matthias Groh, a PHD student at Oxford University updates delegates on his latest research.

It was a year of firsts for us as the conference presented delegates their first ever opportunity to ‘meet the researchers’. We were delighted so many high profile ataxia researchers were able to attend and present their research. The fact that the session had so much interest really delighted us and proved that people have a genuine interest in the latest research into ataxia. For all of the researchers that came on the day, we are extremely grateful and it is something we would love to replicate for future conferences.

Thank you to all of those who attended, we hope you all had a safe journey home! We’re already looking forward to next year.
