Celebrating World Wellbeing Week

Post Published: June 24, 2024

World Wellbeing Week is from 24th to 30th June, it’s a perfect time to reflect on the importance of wellbeing, especially within the ataxia community.

We understand that living with ataxia can bring unique challenges, but we also know that focusing on your wellbeing can make a significant difference in your quality of life. We are here to remind you that you are not alone, and that support is always available.

Wellbeing is not only about physical health, but also about emotional, social, mental health as well. Therefore, it’s crucial to keep your wellbeing on track.

Below are some tips from us:

  1. Healthy eating: we are what we eat, so please maintain a balanced diet, and always keep yourself hydrated.
  2. Physiotherapy and gentle activities like yoga can be super beneficial in improving your mobility and overall health.
  3. Take part in activities you enjoy and keep your mind active. Join our Mindfulness events, these can help boost your overall mental health.
  4. We can at times experience overwhelming emotions. Talk to someone about how you feel. Contact a therapist, call a friend, or contact our Helpline.
  5. It’s very important to connect with people, as it can provide emotional support. Join our support group meetings, virtual activities, or plan something with family and friends. Don’t isolate yourself.

At Ataxia UK, we value your wellbeing and want to support you. Our Helpline is available to offer guidance from Monday – Thursday, between 10:30am to 2:30pm. You can reach us at help@ataxia.org.uk. Whether you need advice, information, or just someone to talk to, we are always here to help. Head to us website for more information, including the latest research, support services, help and advice.

Please take good care of yourselves. Take a moment to breathe and prioritise your health and happiness.

Wishing you a happy and healthy World Wellbeing Week!
